Oil produced by your body is a positive
thing as it helps to keep the skin healthy. However, if your body naturally
produces an excess amount of oil it can clog your pores. Those that have oily
skin are at great risk for acne flare ups. It is imperative for those with oily
skin to have daily (morning and night) cleansing routines as well as weekly
facial treatments. This will prevent the occurrence of excess oils that can
cause clogged pores and acne.
Skin type is different with each
person, even among those with oily skin. The amount of oil released can also
depend on your stress level and weather conditions. It is best to adjust your
cleansing rituals based on environmental factors. Oily skin can be hard to
manage, but with proper education and treatment you can fight off excess oils.
Home Acne Treatment for Oily Skin
When you have oily skin you must be
careful about which products you use as some may increase the oil produced.
This is true even if you use all natural homemade facial cleansers. Some
homemade facial cleansers are made with olive oil and other similar
ingredients. If you already have oily skin this will only make your skin worse.
Typically juice based facial cleansers will work very well for oily skin.
Lemon juice can be used in a multitude
of ways to reduce and eliminate acne. If you are currently breaking out you can
use a splash of lemon juice on the affected area. In the morning cleanse as
normal. You can also use lemon as a mask to reduce oil and prevent acne. To
make a lemon mask, mix one egg and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Lather evenly on
your face and let sit for 30 minutes. Wash your face with your normal facial
cleanser after 30 minutes.
If you experience acne inflammation and
have oily skin you could use a cucumber treatment in order to reduce
inflammation and prevent future break outs. To make this cucumber treatment, take 1 cucumber and 1 cup of
oats and combine in a food processor. You will then add an equal part yogurt
and apply evenly to the face.
Best Acne Treatment for Oily Skin
The most important action that you can
take if you have oily skin is to wash your face each morning and night. A tip
when washing your face with a facial cleanser is to use your fingers. If you
were to wash your face with a washcloth or the something similar, you may
actually cause an increase in oil production. The best practice is to use a
basic gentle cleanser. If using a gentle cleanser applied with your fingers is
not reducing the amount of oil produced, you should use a more complex facial
cleanser. A cleanser that includes an acid based ingredient will work to reduce
oily skin. Acid based ingredients that may be helpful in a cleanser include
beta- hydroxy acid, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.
Another great way to help reduce oily
skin and acne is to use a skin toner. There are 3 types of toners: skin
bracers, skin tonics and astringents. Skin bracers contain no alcohol and are
best used for those with dry skin. Skin tonics are appropriate for oily skin.
However, they may not be the best choice when attempting to clear oil and acne.
In order to reduce acne effectively on oily skin you should use an astringent.
The astringent should only be applied to oily areas as it may over dry other
parts of your skin.
